Car Rentals at Limoges Airport

The Limoges-Bellegarde airport is located in the Limousin region of France, where the current facility was built in 1972. While it does only have one runway, it is one of the longest of any of the airports in France, measuring 2500m. With only four airlines offering services out of the facility, it is still able to handle over 330,000 passengers on an annual basis. Some of the destinations are offered on a seasonal basis, so travelers are encouraged to check with their individual carrier regarding the availability of their destination.

Transportation to the airport can be made by taxi, transfer from the train station, and by private vehicle. If arriving by personal vehicle, there are two dedicated car parks; the central car park (P1) has 315 spaces dedicated for passenger use only, and the side car park (P2) shares 250 spaces with passengers, airport staff, and car rental companies. For passengers with limited mobility, there is a disabled drop off zone, which allows for car park personnel to transfer the vehicle to the dedicated limited mobility zone.

If Limoges or the surrounding area is the destination, there are four car hire companies located at the airport to help in facilitating transport of passengers. The companies on site include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and National/Citer. Drivers can rent vehicles ranging from a few hours, to a few weeks, with a large variety of vehicles to choose from, including small economical options and large vans that are capable of transporting up to 9 passengers and their luggage.

Some rental car companies require the driver to be at least 25 years of age, and to have held their license for a minimum of at least 1 year prior to renting, without any traffic violations or accidents on their record. However some companies require the driver to only be 18 years of age, but have held their license for a minimum of 3 years prior to rental. Drivers under the age of 25 years are subject to the Young Drivers Surcharge, which is an additional fee paid at the rental desk. Some companies offer the ability to add an additional driver to the rental agreement, but any driver that will be behind the wheel needs to fulfill the same age and licensing requirements as the primary driver.

The amenities offered vary, depending on the vehicle and company, however, some of the more common additions include child safety seats, ski racks, satellite navigational system, snow chains, and additional insurance coverage if desired. During reservations, customers can also indicate if they would prefer a vehicle with a standard (or manual) transmission, or an automatic. Due to the individual differences between rental car companies, it is suggested that customers examine the rental requirements prior to arrival.
