Car Rentals in Sardinia

The Sardinia airport, commonly referred to as the Olbia airport, is located on the northeastern side of Sardinia. There are five departure gates and one runway, utilized by nearly 30 different commercial airlines, offering both domestic and international destinations. However, some of the destinations are available on a seasonal basis, so it is suggested that passengers check with their respective carriers during booking to ensure arrival is available during the desired time.

Access to the airport can be made by bus, taxi, train, and private vehicle. If arriving by personal vehicle there is a car park on site for visitors. There are over 1000 parking spaces available, including 40 spaces set aside for passengers who have limited mobility. Both long and short term parking is available on the site, just in front of the passenger terminal. The lot is divided into different zones, depending on the length of time required to use the facilities, and the prices charged varies depending on the zone and duration. However, parking can be free if passengers do some shopping in the terminal building.

If Sardinia is your destination, there are several car hire companies operating on the site. Most public transportation providers do not operate after 10 PM, so renting a vehicle ensures mobility whenever travelers decide. When passengers reach the arrivals hall, staff will be able to assist and answer any questions, pointing passengers in the right direction of the car hire companies. On site car companies include Europcar, AM Service, Elleip Car, and Hertz.

Rental vehicles range from a fuel efficient model, to large vans capable of seating up to nine adults in comfort. Rental conditions vary, depending on the type of vehicle and company, with some companies requiring drivers to be at least 27 years of age in order to rent large vans. Additionally, young drivers, under 25, are required to pay a Young Driver Surcharge on all rentals. License requirements also vary, but generally require all drivers (including those added on at the time of booking) to have held their license for a minimum of one year, with no major accidents on their records. It is important to check with the individual car hire company regarding age restrictions and licensing requirements, as both items may vary.

When making reservations, often deals can be found online, prior to making the trip. While scheduling the car hire, customers can also add satellite navigation equipment, child safety seats, purchase additional insurance coverage, snow chains, ski racks, and just about anything else travelers may need to make their holiday more enjoyable. If customers desire to take the rental across the border, they should check before they depart the rental counter, as some countries are prohibited.
