Sydney Airport Car Rentals

The Sydney airport, also known as the Kingsford-Smith airport, is located in Sydney, New South Wales. As the only major airport in the area, it is ranked as the 27th busiest airports in the world, which is quite a fete, as it is also one of the oldest continuously operated airports. Offering services to over 36 million passengers, along with 471,000 tons of freight on an annual basis, the facility puts their three runways to good use. In order to respect the neighbors in the surrounding towns, the Sydney airport may experience delays during peak periods, as the facility is limited to 80 aircraft movements per hour, so passengers should be prepared to be patient during such times.

Arrival to the Sydney airport is made easy due to the increased availability of public transport, including bus service and transfers. Additionally, passengers can arrive by taxi, train, and private vehicle. If arriving by personal vehicle, there are plenty of parking options available on site, including valet service. There are separate parking facilities for domestic and international passengers, as well as special areas designated for those who have limited mobility. Often there is deep discounts available online for the on site parking facility, so passengers are encouraged to research the airline website prior to arrival to take advantage of these deals.

If Sydney is the destination, there are six car rental companies offering services at the airport for the convenience of travelers. Some of the companies include Hertz, Europcar, Budget, and Redspot, and are located on the arrivals level. Available car groups include economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full size, full size sport, and even hybrid environmentally friendly options.

Some companies require drivers to be at least 25 years of age (some will rent to individuals 21 years of age with an additional surcharge and a vehicle group limit), to hold a current license, have been licensed to drive for at least one year, and hold a license to drive vehicles of the same category as the rental desired. However, there are some locations in New South Wales where there is no minimum age to rent a vehicle.

An additional aspect to keep in mind is the intended destination while driving the rental vehicle, as there are some areas that are prohibited. These include Gove Peninsula or any island off the coast of Australia, Tasmania, certain areas in Queensland, above the snow line from June to September, or on the beaches, through streams, dams, rivers or flood waters. It is important to check with individual car hire companies, as these terms and conditions may vary.

When placing car rental reservations, customers can choose from a variety of options to add to their vehicle, including satellite navigation systems, child safety seats, and additional insurance coverage if so desired.
