Granada Airport Car Rentals

The Granada or Federico Garcia Lorca Granada-Jaen airport, is a minor international airport located near Chauchina, Spain. Close to 1 million passengers pass through its one terminal annually, helping to boost the local tourism industry. Originally built in 1911, the facility has undergone several renovations to keep up with the increased traffic, making it the modern and efficient location that it is today. There are six airlines offering service through the facility, with some of the destinations offered on a seasonal basis. Travelers are reminded to check with their individual airlines regarding access to their desired locations if they happen to be on the seasonal list.

Access to the airport can be made by train, bus, taxi, and personal vehicle. The position of the airport makes access easy, as it lies on one main Autovia, allowing motorists from all directions to make their way to the location. If arriving by private vehicle, there are car parks located on the site, offering both short- and long-term parking. Parking used to be free of charge, but has recently changed to a fee-based parking plan, with the least expensive option being the long-term lot. This car park is located further away from the terminal, but there is a free shuttle to bring passengers to the main facility. Additionally, there are parking areas designated for passengers with limited mobility.

If Granada is the destination, there are several car hire companies located at the airport to assist in providing transportation to passengers. After collecting their baggage, customers can make their way to the car hire desks located in the main arrivals hall. The companies on site include Sixt, Europcar, Avis, and Thrifty, who offer a range of vehicle classes, including economy, compact, intermediate, full-size, and even large vans if desired. Additionally, some companies also offer the option of including a chauffeur with the rental, allowing customers to relax while someone else drives.

The requirements for drivers of rental cars vary depending on the company and class of vehicle, with some stating a minimum age of 26, but allowing younger drivers, aged 21-25, to rent vehicles as long as they pay the Young Drivers Surcharge. Many companies require the driver of the vehicle to have had their license for a minimum of one year, with no major accidents or traffic tickets on their record.

Additional drivers can be added to the car hire agreement, but there is a charge for such service. There is an option to add additional items on during booking, including booster seats, ski racks, and satellite navigation systems. If customers desire to take the vehicle across country borders, there may be an additional charge and restrictions may apply. It is best to check with the individual company regarding these stipulations.
